When a coronary artery becomes completely blocked and blood flow to the heart ceases, the damage to the heart muscle begins. The sooner blood flow is restored, the better the outcome will be. The length of time it takes from the blockage of the artery to the restoration of blood flow is referred to as S.T.E.M.I. time.
